The Island of Corfu is one of the Ionian Islands.  Unlike most Greek islands, it is relatively large and very green.

Corfu is located in northwestern Greece, between the Greek mainland and the Italian peninsula.

Due to its strategic location, Corfu has fallen under the rule of many nation states during its history. They include Italy, Greece, France, Britain and Germany.

In addition to the town of Corfu, the Achilleion (Austrian Palace) and the community of Paleokastritsa are popular tourist destinations on the island.
