Mitropolis Square

Mitropolis Square is located directly in front of the Old Port in Corfu Town.  This pretty square is home to quaint cafes, shops and a historic church.

The Church of Saint Spiliotissa is also called Mitropoilis Church due to of its location on Mitropolis Square.  The Greek Orthodox Basilica was completed in 1577.

The word "Spiliotissa" derives from "spilia" which means a cave.  The cave can be found nearby at the foot of the New Fortress.
